Guess who's birthday it is??
Yep, that's right... Nashville's most famous Honky Tonk will be celebrating it's 53rd birthday this weekend. In true Tootsies fashion, all of lower Broadway is completely shut down and there's a monstrous stage set up in the middle of the road.
The two day event just so happens to coincide with The George Jones Tribute concert which takes place tonight as well. Coincidence?? I think not! I mean really... what better way to celebrate a Tootsies milestone then when every singer/songwriter known to man is in town to honor The Possum.
The Birthday Celebration kicked off yesterday afternoon and ran into the wee hours. Terri Clark, Troy Gentry, and Daryle Singletary were just a few who played last nights show. David and I didn't get there until almost 10 p.m. but we did catch the end of Troys set. It wasn't the same with out Eddie and his mic spinning abilities but watching the entire band kill a fifth of Jim Beam without blinking an eye was entertaining enough.
But just when I think the nights coming to an end out walks surprise quest numeral uno: Jamey Johnson
Love Him!! Hands down one of the most talented yet underrated musicians Nashville has ever had. David and I joke that Jamey is Waylon reincarnated. Yeah, he's that good. The man speaks, the crowd goes silent, he sings and arms are covered in goosebumps! I've been a music industry wife for many years and have seen a lot of cool things, but seeing Jamey close his set with Amazing Grace was probably the coolest by far. I didn't know weather to get down on my knees and pray or stand up and rejoice. It seemed odd at first that he'd sing a hymnal right in the middle of the Southeasts Sin City, but then again it's Jamey Johnson and nothing surprises me when he's involved.
I'm super excited to see what tonight's celebration holds. The George Jones Tribute will be amazing, but more then that I'm anxious to see what other surprise guests Tootsies has up their sleeve. A little PR birdie told me that Kid Rock just so happens to be in town... We shall see ;)
